Noah Ruggles misses shot at game-winning field goal, chance to send Ohio State to CFP National Championship

Noah Ruggles stepped up to the moment of his life after CJ Stroud delivered the drive of his life in the final moments of the Peach Bowl matchup.

After leading for much of the game against Georgia, the Bulldogs came up with a clutch drive behind quarterback Stetson Bennett to take the lead. Bennett threw a touchdown pass with 54 seconds remaining, giving the Bulldogs a 42-41 lead.

Stroud and the Buckeye offense took to the field, needing just a field goal for the win but looking for more. The star QB was able to get Ruggles in range, but the kick was still a long-range try from 50 yards out.

Ruggles had previously drilled a kick from 48 yards out, but this one had slightly bigger stakes and a lot more pressure at hand. Nevertheless, he stepped up to the plate and took aim.

In the end, settling for a longer field goal with a chance to get into better range will haunt Ohio State in the offseason. After fighting to the very end, the Buckeyes come up just short against the reigning champs.
