Notre Dame will have to turn to a couple of reserves to slow down Ohio State’s high-powered offense.

On Tuesday, Irish coach Brian Kelly announced that starting safety Max Redfield was sent home from the Fiesta Bowl for a violation of team rules.

Kelly also said that cornerback Devin Butler broke his foot yesterday, and that he’ll also be absent from the Notre Dame secondary on Friday.

Redfield, a two-year starter, was third on the team with 64 tackles this season. Senior Matthias Farley is expected to take his place.

Ohio State will also be without two defensive starters. Defensive tackle Adolphus Washington was suspended after he was cited for soliciting a prostitute and fellow DT Tommy Schutt has a broken foot. The Buckeyes could possibly move All-American Joey Bosa to the defensive tackle position.

Kickoff for the Fiesta Bowl is set for Friday at 1 p.m. ET in Arizona.
