After finishing the 2020 season without recording a catch, Ohio State wide receiver Mookie Cooper has entered the transfer portal, per the NCAA Transfer Portal Twitter feed.
A true freshman, Cooper ranked in the top 100 of the 247 Composite rankings. Classmates Julian Fleming and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, both five-star prospects, did have receptions added to the stat sheets in 2020.
Cooper’s likely departure will ease some of the crowding at wide receiver for coach Ryan Day. The Buckeyes 2021 recruiting class includes No. 1 overall wideout Emeka Egbuka, as well as Jayden Ballard and Marvin Harrison Jr., both top-100, four-star prospects.
The native of St. Louis, Missouri, Cooper ranked No. 93 overall and the No. 16 wide receiver during the 2020 cycle, per 247Sports Composite. He opted for Ohio State, turning away offers from both Oklahoma and USC.
