Sure, Dwayne Haskins passed for 400 yards (again) and the receivers made some big plays for Ohio State in its 30-14 win over Minnesota on Saturday.

But there were plenty of other terrific efforts in a game which was closer than most expected. The Buckeyes didn’t play all that great but a few individuals deserve praise.

The school agreed, naming two of the three players below as its players of the week. Here are our 5 best unsung performances for OSU from the game against the Golden Gophers:

Jordan Fuller

The free safety set a career high with 12 tackles, leading the team. Of course when a safety makes that many tackles it’s partly an indication that your defense is giving up a few big plays. Still, the junior came up big. Nine of his tackles were solo including what was likely a touchdown-saving tackle on a 20-yard run in the third quarter by Mohamed Ibrahim:

Justin Hilliard

The linebacker had five tackles and two pass breakups; one of those breakups was a key play in the game. Minnesota drove from its 25 to the Ohio State 14 with the game still in the balance late in the third quarter. Hilliard got up off the ground and reached up to bat down a pass on third down, forcing Minnesota to settle for a field goal try which was no good.

Drue Chrisman

The OSU punter is averaging a solid 44.5 yards per attempt, third in the Big Ten. Against Minnesota, he only had to punt twice but one of them was a beauty, pinning the Golden Gophers at their own 1-yard line. Minnesota went three-and-out and punted, setting up an Ohio State field goal. Chrisman did his job of giving the Buckeyes defense great field position.

Isaiah Pryor

The sophomore safety picked off Zack Annexstad in the fourth quarter for his first career interception. The Golden Gophers had just hit on a long trick play to reach the Buckeyes 34. Annexstad threw deep, but Pryor shifted over and snagged the pass, ending Minnesota’s last big threat. Pryor also set a career high with five tackles.

Blake Haubeil

The backup kicker came on in place of Sean Nuernberger and hit all three of his field goal attempts, including one from 47 yards, and was 3-3 on PATs. Those were the sophomore’s first career placekicking attempts.
