Ryan Day has added another B1G assistant coach to his defensive staff.
Thursday, Ohio State added Matt Barnes to be the new special teams coordinator and assistant secondary coach in Columbus. He was most recently at Maryland, where he served as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.
Barnes was with the Terrapins for three seasons on D.J. Durkin’s staff.

Earlier this week, Day poached two assistants away from rival Michigan. Greg Mattison and Al Washington were both on the Wolverines’ defensive staff a year ago and are both headed to Columbus.
The addition of Barnes likely means that Taver Johnson, who coached the cornerbacks in 2018 at Ohio State, will not be retained.
In addition to Maryland, Barnes had pervious stops at Florida and Michigan.
