Ohio State announces Bill O'Brien as new OC, updates roles of other offensive assistants
Ohio State officially announced Bill O’Brien as the team’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach as Ryan Day officially steps back into the CEO role with the Buckeyes.
Brian Hartline will be co-offensive coordinator in addition to wide receivers coach. The school also announced that it is anticipated that Corey Dennis, quarterbacks coach the past 4 seasons, will transition into a still-to-be-determined role with the program.
This completes a move after last year’s move of Hartline to the offensive coordinator role, but Day ultimately never gave up play-calling to the first-time play caller.
O’Brien most recently was the offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots last season, and the previous 2 seasons was at Alabama as OC. He’s also been the head coach of the Houston Texans and Penn State.
“I am extremely pleased to be able to add Bill O’Brien to our coaching staff,” Day said in a statement. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge – and a tremendous amount of success – at both the NFL and collegiate levels. He is an excellent and experienced offensive coach who has run NFL and Power 5 programs and developed some truly elite players throughout his career. He’ll be an excellent teacher and recruiter for us, and he absolutely strengthens our staff.”
