Ohio State announces nonconference schedule for 2023-24 hoops season
Ohio State has officially set its nonconference slate for the upcoming 2023-24 men’s basketball season. The Buckeyes revealed the slate on Tuesday, headlined by a pair of SEC opponents and another appearance in the CBS Sports Classic.
Chris Holtmann’s squad will open the season at home against Oakland on Nov. 6. They’ll host the first game of a home-and-home series with Texas A&M on Nov. 10. On Nov. 19. Ohio State hosts Western Michigan — the conclusion of a 4-game homestand to open the year. Merrimack also comes to the Schottenstein Center on Nov. 15.
The Buckeyes will open the Emerald Coast Classic on Nov. 24 against the Alabama Crimson Tide. On Nov. 25, they’ll face either Oregon or Santa Clara.
After the Emerald Coast Classic concludes, Ohio State returns home to host Central Michigan on Nov. 29. Miami (OH) comes to town on either Dec. 5 or Dec. 6.
The Buckeyes are awaiting a confirmed opponent in the CBS Sports Classic, set to take place on Dec. 16. The game is reportedly taking place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and reports have suggested Ohio State will face Kentucky. That, however, has not yet been confirmed by the school.
The final 2 non-conference games will take place around Christmas. The Buckeyes will host New Orleans on Thursday, Dec. 21, and then travel to Cleveland for a neutral site game against West Virginia.
“This is the best and most challenging overall schedule we have put together in a few years,” Holtmann said in a statement. “We have a preseason Top 15 opponent coming to the Schottenstein Center in the early part of the year, a couple of preseason Top 25 teams away from home and several good regional mid-major programs in the nonconference. This is all in addition to our tremendous home slate of Big Ten opponents.”
