Ohio State announces punishment for AD Gene Smith resulting from Urban Meyer investigation

The biggest story of Wednesday night was that Ohio State suspended Urban Meyer for three games after the results of the investigation into how incidents and allegations involving former Buckeyes assistant coach Zach Smith were handled by the football program and athletic program. As it turns out, Meyer isn’t the only prominent Buckeye being suspended.
AD Gene Smith will also be suspended Aug. 31 to Sept. 16, similar terms to Meyer’s punishment of being suspended through Sept. 2, as well as suspended for the games on Sept. 1, Sept. 8 and Sept. 15.
Per Mary Jo White, the lead investigator, Meyer and Smith both knew of the 2015 incident involving Smith, but did not report it to compliance as the investigators believe they should have.
Gene Smith has been suspended from Aug. 31-Sept. 16.
