Ohio State will be adding to the number of professionals it has on staff in the sports psychology department, the university announced on Thursday.
According to a statement from Ohio State University’s Department of Athletics, the sport psychology area will now have four full-time staff members who will provide assistance and access to mental health and performance enhancement services. They will be available across all intercollegiate athletics.
The school wanted to increase the access to mental health professionals, particularly in the athletic department.
From Ohio State University:
“Increasing the size of our staff is extremely significant in the area of mental health for our student-athletes,” said Dr. Jamey Houle. “Our sport psychology and counseling staff will be able to provide more consultation, group work and team presentations, and be more involved in performance team meetings as needed.”
Ohio State previously had two full-time employees with a focus on sport psychology.
