Ohio State basketball star E.J. Liddell will be out “indefinitely” with a non-COVID-19 related illness, the program announced on Friday afternoon.
“I’m really disappointed for E.J. but we anticipate him returning here hopefully soon,” Ohio State coach Holtmann said in a release. “He is doing well and is going to be routinely evaluated by our medical staff.”
Liddell is a sophomore forward who has arguably been Ohio State’s best player so far this season. He’s averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest in 2020.
His points and rebounding averages both lead the team through four games.
Liddell had a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds in a huge win over Notre Dame in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge earlier this week. The Buckeyes are 4-0 this season.
Ohio State hosts Cleveland State in its next contest, but OSU’s schedule will get more difficult after that. The Buckeyes are slated to face Purdue, No. 16 North Carolina, No. 21 Rutgers, Northwestern and Nebraska before the calendar turns to January.
