Ohio State is heading back to the Rose Bowl, and the Buckeyes are getting a second shot at Oregon this season. In October, it was the Ducks coming out on top at home, and the two sides will now face off for a trip to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

After confirming Ohio State would wear its traditional road white uniforms shortly after clinching the trip, the Buckeyes revealed on Sunday that the team will be rolling out an alternate helmet that debuted in the 2022 Rose Bowl. It’s a subtle touch but one that is dazzling in its detail.

The change involves weaving a rose pattern within the scarlet stripe down the center of the helmet. It’s a great nod to the Granddaddy of Them All and the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

The 2022 Rose Bowl was a particularly memorable — and historic — game in Ohio State history. CJ Stroud set a Buckeye record with 573 passing yards and tied a single-game record with 6 touchdowns while Jaxon Smith-Njigba had the best single game ever for an Ohio State receiver.

Smith-Njigba tied his own program record with 15 receptions while setting a Buckeye and Rose Bowl record with 347 receiving yards against Utah. His 3 receiving touchdowns from that game are tied with a number of players for the 2nd-most in a single game in Ohio State history.

We’ll see if Ryan Day and this version of the Buckeyes have another big performance in them.
