It’s hard to name just one hero from Ohio State’s 62-39 victory over Michigan in the final week of the season. But if you were to make a list, Chris Olave’s name would be near the top.

The freshman wide receiver hadn’t contributed much in the Buckeyes first 11 games of the season. He had just five receptions for 70 yards entering the season finale against the Wolverines.

But on Nov. 24, Olave shined in the national spotlight. He caught two passes for 48 yards, both of which were touchdown receptions. He also blocked a Michigan punt, which resulted in another score for the Buckeyes.

Olave says that game, and those three plays, were life-changing.

“Changed my whole life,” Olave told reporters on Wednesday. “Those three big plays I made, it was unreal, and all the spotlight I got put in and everything.”

Olave used his big day against Michigan as a springboard into Ohio State’s B1G Championship Game matchup against Northwestern. He caught five passes for 79 yards and a touchdown, helping the Buckeyes post a 45-24 win over the Wildcats for a second straight conference title.

Urban Meyer has talked about Olave’s talent level near the end of the season and projected that the wide receiver would be a great player during his time in Columbus.

“Boy, he’s going to be good,” Meyer said of Olave. “He’s way ahead of schedule.”

The Michigan game may have been just been the beginning of Olave’s story at Ohio State.
