Ohio State had to reshuffle the deck, so to speak, in the aftermath of its national championship run in 2024.

The ultimate success often breeds movement with pro franchises and at the college level, too, and that’s what’s happened in Columbus so far during the winter offseason. The comings and goings were headlined by offensive coordinator Chip Kelly heading back to the NFL to become the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders under new head coach Pete Carroll.

That meant the Buckeyes had to hire a new OC, and they promoted from within by naming longtime assistant and former Ohio State wide receiver Brian Hartline to replace Kelly. The move produced a lot of reaction, and a few days ago Buckeyes’ 5-star 2026 wideout commit Chris Henry Jr. only had positive words for Hartline, according to On3.

“I love this move. Coach Hartline knows how to develop receivers better than anyone, and now with him as OC I know he’s going to put us receivers in the best position to dominate for sure,” said Henry, who is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals wideout Chris Henry Sr.
