Ohio State cornerback opts for the transfer portal after 2 seasons with program
With a pair of veteran defensive backs contemplating a jump to the NFL, Ohio State will possibly be on the lookout for a new starting corner going into next season. Ryan Watts will not be among those in consideration.
The redshirt freshman put his name in the transfer portal Friday. He announced the news on Twitter.

Watts opened the season as a starter at corner and played 49 snaps against Minnesota, according to Eleven Warriors, but he played only 73 defensive snaps the rest of the regular season, the majority of which came in garbage time. He ended the year with 6 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions.
A Texas native, the former 4-star prospect had 5 tackles and appearances in all 7 games for the Buckeyes as a true freshman in 2020.
He’s the 4th known Ohio State player to enter their name into the portal since the regular season ended. Ohio State briefly explored bringing in LSU corner Eli Ricks from the portal, but reportedly backed off that pursuit out of fear over what his potential addition would do to the depth of the room. Eleven Warriors reported the Buckeyes are not expected to add a transfer corner.
