Ohio State DB Calvin Simpson-Hunt reportedly enters transfer portal
Ohio State saw a piece of its defensive back room depart for the transfer portal, as Calvin Simpson-Hunt has decided to head elsewhere in 2025, On3 reported on Tuesday.
The cornerback is leaving after his sophomore season with the Buckeyes. During Ohio State’s national championship run, Simpson-Hunt played just 6 defensive snaps and recorded 2 tackles.

The 6-foot, 204-pounder from Waxahachie, Texas, was a 4-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Simpson-Hunt committed to Ohio State in June 2022 after flipping from Texas Tech.
Simpson-Hunt played 78 snaps as a freshman for the Buckeyes during the 2023 season, primarily playing on special teams. He served in a similar special teams role during this past season, playing 118 total snaps.
Simpson-Hunt’s reported departure shouldn’t affect the Buckeyes too much at cornerback because of the depth they have built up at the position. The Buckeyes will have to replace senior starter Denzel Burke and might lose junior Davison Igbinosun, with his decision regarding the 2025 NFL Draft lingering.
But Jermaine Mathews Jr. is expected to return for his junior year after rotating as a third cornerback this season.
Ohio State will also have Bryce West and Aaron Scott entering their sophomore seasons in 2025, as well as Devin Sanchez arriving as a true freshman this year.
