An Ohio State defensive back and former 5-star recruit is in the NCAA transfer portal. Bill Landis of The Athletic reported the news on Wednesday afternoon.

Tyreke Johnson, a 5-star member of the 2018 recruiting class and the nation’s No. 21-ranked player for the class, will explore his options outside Columbus for the upcoming season. The news comes after former 4-star wide receiver Jameson Williams transferred from Ohio State to Alabama.

Johnson played in 12 career games over the last three seasons with Ohio State. He was redshirted during his first year with the program and appeared in contests over the last two seasons. He has been credited with 8 total tackles as a Buckeye.

With the redshirt season in 2018 and the NCAA’s blanket waiver for student-athletes in 2020, Johnson will still have three years of eligibility to use at his next destination.

The Jacksonville, Florida native received over two dozen offers during the recruiting process in 2018. It’s unclear where he might continue his college football career at this time.
