Ohio State DBs Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock confirm decision on playing futures
Ohio State defensive backs Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock once came to Columbus alongside each other in the 2021 recruiting class. Now, the duo will leave Ohio State together as national champions.
This past season, both players appeared in all 16 games for Ohio State’s elite defensive unit. Hancock finished 2nd on the team with 8 pass breakups while Burke tied for the team lead with 2 interceptions.
On Friday, both Burke and Hancock confirmed in separate statements that they are on their way to the 2025 NFL Draft. The moves are not surprising with both players seeing extensive action across their 4 seasons in Columbus.
“Shoutout to my corners coach “OG” Tim Walton, you really changed my life on and off the field, we really brougth BIA back,” wrote Burke in his announcement. “… Can’t wait to enter this next chapter of my life that God has blessed me with and look forward to representing my family and school in the 2025 NFL Draft.”
“I am excited for the next chapter of my life and where it will take me, knowing the bonds and brotherhood will stay with me forever, I’m a Buckeye for life,” echoed Hancock.

Burke began his career with a standout freshman performance, recording 12 pass breakups and an interception out of the gate. In spite of leaving early for the draft after his junior season, Burke came back for one more ride, helping lead the nation’s top defense to a national title.
As for Hancock, he saw limited action his first 2 seasons but became a regular across the 2023-24 seasons. In that time frame, Hancock recorded 3 interceptions, 13 pass breakups and 4 forced fumbles for the Buckeyes.
While star safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Sonny Styles will return to the defense next season, Ohio State will deal with some key losses at every level of the unit. Hancock and Burke are just the tip of the iceberg with veteran safety Lathan Ransom officially wrapping up his Buckeye career in the national championship.
