Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs was not with the Buckeyes during last season’s Fiesta Bowl.

He returned to Columbus in January, after a two-season stint with the Tennessee Titans, and is getting his first look at Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence this Friday when the Buckeyes take on the Tigers in this year’s Sugar Bowl.

In last season’s matchup, Lawrence was moderately successful passing against the Buckeyes, completing 18 of 33 passes for 259 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. But it was with his rushing game that Lawrence really stuck it to the Buckeyes, turning 16 carries into 107 yards and a touchdown.

At Tuesday’s press conference, Coombs talked about his impressions of Lawrence and called him “deceptively fast.”

Coombs added that Clemson’s offense is one of the most explosive he’s ever studied.

Kick off for this game is at 8 p.m. ET on Jan. 1, 2021.
