It was reported earlier today and has now been confirmed by many that Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell will be taking over as the head coach at the University of Cincinnati next season.

Earlier this afternoon, the Bearcats issued a press release regarding its new man in charge. Within the release, it was said that Fickell would stick with the Buckeyes throughout its College Football Playoff run for the remainder of the season.

“Fickell will be introduced to the media at a 3:15 p.m. ET press conference Saturday on UC’s campus,” via gobearcats.com. “He has agreed to a six-year deal which is pending approval by the UC Board of Trustees. The contract will be released to the public following that approval. Fickell will continue to serve as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator through the Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff run.”

Fickell has spent the past 15 seasons at Ohio State coaching many aspects of the game, including time as an interim head coach, special teams coach, linebackers coach and defensive coordinator.

The No. 3 Buckeyes’ next game will be against No. 2 Clemson on Dec. 31 in Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl.
