Ohio State defensive lineman Tommy Togiai has made a decision. He’s decided to begin pursuing a career in the NFL.

Monday night, Togiai released a statement on Twitter, declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. His announcement came on the same day as the deadline for all players to declare.

Togiai finished the 2020 season with 23 tackles, 4.5 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 pass break-ups and a forced fumble. He was a big reason why the Buckeyes were able to finish the year with a 7-1 record and reached the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Below is the statement Togiai released on Monday night.

The 2020 season proved to be a breakout year for Togiai, who quickly emerged as a prominent presence along the Buckeyes’ defensive line. In his two previous seasons in Columbus, Togiai collected 26 stops with 4 tackles for loss and a pass break-up.

Ohio State’s defensive line did receive some good news on Monday, despite Togiai’s announcement. Defensive end Tyreke Smith announced that he plans to return to Columbus for the 2021 season, providing the Buckeyes with depth and talent along the line for next fall.
