Ohio State fans believed a targeting call against a Buckeyes defender late in the 4th quarter in a tight game against Nebraska should have reversed. Instead, it was upheld as linebacker Arvell Reese was ejected — he will miss the first half against Penn State in Week 10.

Ryan Day was furious with the call, as you can see below:

And Buckeyes fans, already on edge with the Cornhuskers maintaining possession and looking to erase a 4-point lead with just over 3 minutes to go, were irate, responding by throwing debris on the field.

It’s the second week in a row a game has featured fans throwing objects on the field after a controversial officiating decision. In Week 8, Texas cornerback Jahdae Burden appeared to have come up with an interception of Georgia quarterback Carson Beck in the 3rd quarter, but after the Longhorns offense took the field, the call was ultimately reversed after further discussion by the officials.

Fans at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium responded by peppering the field with debris, leading to the SEC fining the University of Texas and vowing to ban anyone involved in the incident from all remaining athletic events in the 2024-25 school year.

While the Buckeyes held on to win 21-17, we’ll see what the Big Ten’s reponse is to the situation at Ohio Stadium.
