Ohio State is working hard to rebuild the coaching staff under Ryan Day following some key departures after the national championship.

The offensive line coach is a big one after Justin Frye left for the NFL after 3 seasons in Columbus. Frye was instrumental in helping Ohio State juggle multiple season-ending injuries to starting linemen this season, as well as helping develop Josh Simmons and Donovan Jackson.

According to Football Scoop, Day has his next o-line coach lined up in the form of Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen. Bowen has been VT’s OC since 2022 and previously spent time at Penn State (2018-20) and Maryland (2017) among others.

Bowen has coached the OL or tight ends across his stints at VT, Penn State, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Maryland. He brings plenty of experience to Columbus and should help elevate the Buckeye coaching staff.

While Bowen was the OC for the Hokies, it is not being reported at this juncture that he will become the new OC for Day. That position is of particular interest with Day looking to replace both main coordinators coming off the national championship.

Chip Kelly used his one successful season in Columbus to jump back to the NFL with reports that he will become the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL. Meanwhile, DC Jim Knowles left the Buckeyes for Penn State, a homecoming of sorts for the Philadelphia native.
