Recruiting top players remains the lifeblood of college football. However, landing the best players is just part of the battle.

Once on campus, teams must develop strong recruits into elite players. According to a recent deep dive by 247 Sports analyst Chris Hummer, Ohio State is able to both recruit and develop prospects at a top level.

When looking at the number of elite prospects turned into NFL Draft picks, Ohio State came in at No. 3 nationally on Hummer’s list with a Development Rating of 1.05. That spot checks in just behind Virginia Tech (1.20) and Alabama (1.19).

No other B1G team landed a spot on the top 10:

Hummer went on to point out in his deep dive that Ohio State is the most consistent non-Alabama producer of talent:

Ohio State has been the most consistent non-Alabama producer of elite talent. Each of its 2013-17 recruiting classes manufactured at least one first-round pick among Top247 players, and its drafted percentage (58.7%) is the fourth highest among all teams included in this study.

Ryan Day has already produced a number of elite recruiting classes. Now, he’s got the numbers to back up that his staff does a premier job of preparing those prospects for the NFL.
