Mathis is a significant loss for the Buckeyes. He’s the No. 76 overall player and the No. 6 edge in the country for the class of 2025, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 3 player from the state of Pennsylvania.
At this time, it’s unclear where Mathis may be headed next. He initially chose Ohio State over offers from programs such as Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama and plenty of other elite programs.
As for the Buckeyes, Ohio State still looks to be building an elite recruiting class. Even with this decommitment, Ohio State owns the nation’s No. 1-ranked class for this upcoming cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The class still includes 5 other defensive line prospects who are all considered to be 4-star recruits.
The Early Signing Period for the class of 2025 will begin next month.
