When the head coaching job opened up at Colorado State, it was rumored that Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was a strong candidate for the job. On Tuesday, the leader of the Buckeye offense confirmed those rumors.
Wilson met with the media on Tuesday as both Ohio State and Clemson players and coaches talked about the upcoming Fiesta Bowl. While meeting with reporters, Wilson confirmed that there was mutual interest between he and Colorado State for the job.
He also said that he’s in no rush to leave Columbus.
“If it’s meant to be, maybe you get that opportunity, but I’m not living my life to get that opportunity right now,” Wilson said, according to Eleven Warriors. “It’s coaching these kids, at a great place and trying to win as many games and keep pushing this program forward to greatness.”
Ohio State has already lost one assistant coach to another job, with co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach Jeff Hafley being named the head coach at Boston College. He will continue to be with the Buckeyes through the College Football Playoff.
Passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich is also rumored to be a candidate to become the offensive coordinator at Texas.
Wilson was a head coach at Indiana for six seasons before he and the university parted ways. From 2011-16, Wilson compiled a 26-47 record with a 12-37 record in B1G play. The Hoosiers reached a bowl game in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016, finishing 6-6 both years.
