Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye may get an opportunity to move up.

The longtime assistant is reportedly set to interview with the Chicago Bears for their vacant offensive line coach job. Frye has been with the Buckeyes since 2022 but has been coaching in the college ranks since 2007.

After another disappointing season in 2024, the Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus. Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was hired to replace Eberflus, and Johnson opted not to keep previous offensive line coach Chris Martin around.

Now, Frye is one of the coaches who will have a chance to impress Johnson and potentially earn the job. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Tulane OL coach Dan Roushar is also expected to interview for the Bears’ job.

Since coming to Ohio State, Frye has helped 3 OSU offensive linemen get drafted. Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones, and Luke Wypler were all selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, and the unit figures to have a couple more selected in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Before diving into coaching, Frye played college ball at Indiana from 2002-06. The coach got his start as a graduate assistant with the Hoosiers before landing the Temple OL coach job. Frye has also had stints at Boston College and UCLA.
