Hartline, 38, played for Ohio State from 2006-08. After playing in the NFL from 2009-15 with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns, he decided to get into coaching.
Hartline joined the OSU staff in 2017 as an offensive quality control assistant. He stepped into the wide receivers coach in 2018 and has been one of the most impactful assistant coaches in the country.
A top recruiter, Hartline has helped put numerous Ohio State wide receivers in the NFL, inlcuding Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr. Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith are sure to join that list.
Hartline’s excellent work coaching Buckeye receivers has led to extra responsibilities the past couple of seasons.
Ahead of the 2023 season, Hartline was promoted to offensive coordinator while maintaining wide receiver responsibilities. Head coach Ryan Day, a former offensive coordinator, was the Buckeye play-caller in 2023.
After the 2023 offense struggled, Day brought in Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator and play-caller. Hartline maintained a co-OC title while coaching wide receivers for the national champions.
