Ewers, of Southlake, Texas skipped his senior season at Carroll Senior High School to enroll at Ohio State and pursue the starting quarterback position in Columbus. Texas law prohibits high school student athletes from profiting from their positions, and NCAA athletes are now free to negotiate Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day recently indicated that Ewers was never a contender to play early this season, but that some of his early progress has already been held back.

Day said Saturday that Ewers was not participating in several of the final practices, and while he didn’t say it was an injury, did clear it up that it was a physical issue that will keep Ewers out for at least another few days.
