Mike Weber just can’t seem to avoid the injury bug. Over the last two years, the Ohio State running back has been banged up, severely hampering his ability to produce consistent results.

But the Buckeye continues to battle through the pain and contribute any way he can. Weber’s coaches are taking notice.

The 2018 campaign started well for the redshirt junior, rushing for 186 yards and three touchdowns against Oregon State in Week 1. It looked like a bright year was ahead of the star running back, who recovered from a hamstring issue in the 2017 season. A foot injury in the Buckeyes’ Week 3 game against TCU has limited Weber though, and he’s had to fight through the discomfort.

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford had plenty of praise for Weber and his toughness.

“You’ve got to cut his foot off for him not to play,” Alford told Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors. “He’s going to play, unless there’s something that he just can’t go.”

Weber hasn’t been at full strength since the injury but is doing what he can for Ohio State. He rushed for 18 yards on six carries two weeks ago against Tulane. On Saturday, he churned out 51 yards on nine touches against Penn State.

On the season, Weber has rushed for 350 yards and three touchdowns.

At full strength, Weber is one of the top ball-carriers in the B1G. As a freshman, he rushed for 1,096 yards and nine touchdowns while maintaining a 6.02 yards per carry average. He’s shown that same capability at times over the last two seasons, but those injuries have prevented him from another breakout season.

Still, Weber continues to fight, and play, even through the pain. And it doesn’t sound like he’s coming out any time soon.
