Another Ohio State RB is reportedly opting to test the transfer portal coming out of the 2023 season.

According to On3 Sports, RB Chip Trayanum is opting for the portal after 2 seasons in Columbus. Trayanum began his career at Arizona State before eventually joining the Buckeyes. Trayanum originally came to Ohio State to play linebacker but transitioned back to full-time RB late in 2022.

Last season, Trayanum did not see regular snaps at RB until The Game against Michigan. He delivered 83 rushing yards in that performance and a 14-yard catch in a loss.

During the 2023 season, Trayanum was the team’s second-leading rusher behind TreVeyon Henderson. He finished with 373 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 50+ yards 3 times but his usage dipped in the second half of the season.

For now, Ohio State’s backfield outlook is unclear heading toward the Cotton Bowl and the 2024 offseason. Miyan Williams has already declared for the NFL Draft, and Evan Pryor is also in the transfer portal.

TreVeyon Henderson is the lead back for Ohio State but will have a decision to make in regard to the NFL Draft or a return to school. Dallan Hayden would be the next candidate to contribute in the backfield. Hayden has shined at times carrying the ball, but he saw limited action this fall with the coaching staff looking to preserve a redshirt for the RB.
