Despite not having thrown a pass during an Ohio State football game, newly tabbed Buckeyes starting quarterback C.J. Stroud has been reaping praise from his receiver corps.
Garrett Wilson on C.J. Stroud: “The way he throws it, he always gives you a chance.”
Jaxon Smith-Njigba: “He can put it places where defenders can’t get to it.”
Julian Fleming: “On any throw, he’s gonna give you a chance where you can make the play.” https://t.co/yKDSlektl8

Last week, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day named Stroud, a redshirt freshman from California as the starter for the OSU opener against Minnesota on Thursday night. He had been in competition with fellow redshirt freshman Jack Miller and true freshman Kyle McCord for the QB1 spot on the depth chart.
After the departure of Justin Fields for the NFL, Stroud had been considered the front-runner for the spot.
The season opener against the Gophers will be the first time Stroud attempts a pass during an Ohio State game that counts, but there have been plenty of glimpses of his ability to hit the deep-routes. During an OSU spring game, he threw a 40-yard strike to connect with wide receiver Chris Olave.
