Ohio State’s tradition of the “Block O” jersey is a good one, and the Buckeyes revealed the latest recipient on Saturday!
This year, the honor goes to Xavier Johnson, a player listed as a wide receiver that has been a versatile contributor to the program. He joined the Buckeyes as a 3-star recruit in the 2018 recruiting class and has done everything asked of him throughout his career.

Johnson was mostly used on special teams prior to the 2022 season. With injuries to the wide receiver and running back groups, Johnson came up clutch in a number of facets of the game.
In the season opener against Notre Dame, Johnson had a key touchdown catch. He also took reps in the Buckeye backfield and finished with 146 yards rushing, 151 yards receiving and 3 total touchdowns. Johnson also registered 6 tackles as a part of kick coverage for Ohio State.
Johnson follows in the footsteps of fellow “Block O” recipients. The tradition was originally started in 2020 when the NCAA changed the rules to allow players to don the number zero.
Jonathon Cooper — a defensive lineman — was the first Buckeye to receive the honor. Kamryn Babb was the recipient in 2022 while Thayer Munford donned the honor in 2021.
