Ohio State just landed one of the top offensive tackle transfers in the portal this offseason in Rice’s Ethan Onianwa.

Onianwa committed to and signed with the Buckeyes on Tuesday morning. He also had offers from programs such as Texas A&M, Florida State and more.

Onianwa is an excellent pickup for the Buckeyes. He’s the No. 131 overall player and the No. 13 offensive tackle in the country for this transfer portal cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He’s the second offensive tackle transfer to commit to Ohio State this offseason, joining ex-Minnesota tackle Philip Daniels. Daniels is rated as the No. 4 offensive tackle in this class, giving the Buckeyes 2 of the best players in the portal at that position going into 2025.

Onianwa was exceptional as a pass-blocker during the 2024 season at Rice. He only allowed 1 sack in 350 pass blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Ohio State is now up to transfer commits overall in this cycle. The class also includes former West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson, former Purdue tight end Max Klare and former Idaho State edge Logan George.

As for the rest of the 2024 season, Ohio State will face Oregon in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.
