MADISON, Wisconsin – TreVeyon Henderson’s running, Marvin Harrison Jr.’s crazy-good touchdown catch and defense kept Ohio State one of the nation’s 7 unbeaten teams.

The No. 3 Buckeyes (8-0) went into another difficult road environment at night and left unranked Wisconsin (6-3) with a 24-10 victory.

Harrison’s 19-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter answered Wisconsin’s touchdown to start the half. But the Badgers hung around until Henderson burst free for a 33-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach with 5:15 to play.

That was all Ohio State’s defense needed. The Buckeyes held Wisconsin to 259 total yards, 94 rushing yards and a combined 6-of-18 on third- and fourth-down attempts.

Player of the Week: Running back TreVeyon Henderson

Henderson played for the first time since Notre Dame when he broke a long touchdown run in another night road test and 17-14 victory. He said after the game that he has been recovering from a cheap shot in that game.

Henderson had season highs for 162 yards and 24 carries against Wisconsin. He also caught 4 passes for 45 yards. Henderson moved into 23rd place on Ohio State’s all-time rushing list at 2,276 yards. Another 100-yard game next week would move him into the top 20.

Biggest surprise: Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka did not play

Egbuka was expected to play based on what head coach Ryan Day said earlier in the week. Egbuka was not listed as out or questionable before the game.

The Buckeyes’ offense will feel whole again when Egbuka returns. He has now missed 3 straight games after catching 22 passes for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first 5 games.

Biggest concern: Quarterback Kyle McCord’s consistency

McCord makes great throws and has made important throws, and his completion percentage is over 60%. But he misses open receivers badly at times, and he threw 2 interceptions against Wisconsin.

McCord, however, needs to stay healthy. Backup Devin Brown is out for a few games it appears after injuring his ankle last week against Penn State.

Developing trend: Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. can’t be stopped

The son of the hall of famer recorded his 6th 100-yard game Saturday with 6 catches for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was targeted 10 times, and Day said it probably should have been more.

Harrison is often more open than he should be considering the threat he is and the special attention defenses try to pay to him. He is on the edge of the Heisman Trophy conversation, which he should be with 48 catches for 889 yards and 8 touchdowns. No one with as many catches as Harrison has as high of a per-catch average (18.5 yards) as he does.

Key stat: Turnover margin

Ohio State lost the turnover battle 3-1 and still won by 2 touchdowns. That’s not supposed to happen.

The Buckeyes are now minus-2 in turnover margin, yet are unbeaten.

First impressions about Week 10

at Rutgers, noon Saturday (CBS): The Buckeyes face a former defensive assistant for the second straight week. Greg Schiano is in his fourth season back at Rutgers and his 15th overall. He coached the Scarlet Knights from 2001-11, was the 2006 national coach of the year and had 3 9-win seasons. Schiano coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 and 2013. Then he was Ohio State’s defensive coordinator from 2016-18.

Rutgers (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) did not play this week and will be coming off consecutive wins over Michigan State and Indiana. The Scarlet Knights average 178 yards rushing and 148 yards passing. Leading the run game are Kyle Monangai with 744 yards and quarterback Gavin Wimsatt with 362.
