Ohio State’s team physician is taking on a new role with the B1G. Dr. James Borchers is departing as Ohio State’s head team physician to become the B1G’s first Chief Medical Officer, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Borchers is staying on at Ohio State as a clinical physician.

Borchers was a key voice in the B1G’s decision to change course and play the 2020 season.

“It was extremely difficult to step away from my role as head team physician at Ohio State University,” Borchers said in a text via The Dispatch.

“It has been the privilege of my career to work with an incredible group of athletic trainers and physicians to care for the amazing student-athletes at Ohio State. I am so thankful for the opportunities, experiences and the wonderful people I have worked with at Ohio State.”

Next up for Ohio State is a home matchup vs. conference foe Maryland on Oct. 9 (Noon EST, FOX). Maryland was routed 51-14 by Iowa for its first loss of the season. Ohio State is 6-0 all-time vs. Maryland.
