Ohio State is in serious trouble against Notre Dame in Week 1. Despite entering the game as 17-point favorites, the Buckeyes trail the Irish 10-7 entering the break.

How bad is the 7 points put up in the first 30 minutes of the action? It ties the worst first-half performance of the Buckeyes during Ryan Day’s tenure as head coach.

The last time Ohio State had a first half that bad was in the 2021 loss to Oregon:

Noah Ruggles did miss a late field goal try that would have made it 10-all, but that is far from the biggest concern at this point. In fact, even the Ohio State defense has played well early on.

The big issue for the Buckeyes right now is an offense that is out of sync. Star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is also banged up, and Miyan Williams also appeared shaken up after one run.

We’ll see if the Buckeyes can shake of the rust in the second half.
