Hawkins was a member of Ohio State’s 2016 recruiting class but was redshirted in his first season in Columbus. He was also sidelined as a second-year freshman in 2017.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Hawkins is a Maple Heights, Ohio native and was ranked as the 13th-best tight end in the 2016 recruiting class. While there was no reason posted for his decision to leave the program, not seeing the field in two seasons is probably a factor.
Youngstown State finished the 2017 season with a 6-5 record and 4-4 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
