Ohio State’s football stadium will be the host site for an HBCU game between Central State University and Kentucky State University. HBCUGameday.com reported on the news on Wednesday morning.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28 and will serve as the inaugural Classic for Columbus. It’s a nonconference game between Central State and Kentucky State, a rivalry that dates back as 1947.
Central State athletic director Tara A. Owens released a statement on the news.
“We have been anxiously waiting for the day when we can safely return to competition,” Owens said. “With a new staff led by head coach Bobby Rome and a roster full of re-energized and motivated student-athletes, we can’t wait to represent and showcase Central State University at the Classic for Columbus.”
Central State leads the all-time series against Kentucky State 36-23-1.
Ohio State starts the season on Thursday, Sept. 2 but will travel to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis to play Minnesota. The Buckeyes will return home on Saturday, Sept. 11 to host Oregon.
