Ohio State to wear special helmet sticker commemorating Archie Griffin’s first Heisman Trophy
Ohio State is gearing up for another season with a national championship on its mind. The pressure on Ryan Day to win it all is at an all-time this season with the Buckeyes among the most talented teams in the nation.
The team will kick off the 2024 season against the Akron Zips in a game that shouldn’t be close. Prior to Week 1, the team announced that a commemorative sticker would be worn by each player this season honoring school legend Archie Griffin.
Griffin is still the school’s all-time leading rusher, having accumulated 5,589 yards from 1972-75. The sticker reads “50,” with Griffin’s face replacing the zero since it has been 50 years since Griffin won his 1st Heisman Trophy.
Griffin is the only player to win 2 Heisman Trophies in a career. The legendary RB would go on to have an NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Diante Griffin, Archie’s grandson, was the first to put the sticker on his helmet. The duo was then filmed touring the Buckeyes’ locker room together.
The sticker is not the only thing the Buckeyes are doing to honor Griffin. Statues of the legendary RB were recently unveiled at the Rose Bowl and in the rotunda of the Horseshoe. There’s also a new street sign labeling Tuttle Park Place as “Archie Griffin Drive.” Griffin will cap off an August to remember by dotting the ‘i’ in Script Ohio at halftime against Akron.
The Buckeyes will kick off against the Akron Zips from Columbus at 3:30 p.m. ET. Fans can continue to use Tradition’s sports betting apps in Ohio to get in on the Buckeye action all season long.
