Ohio State's No. 5 ranking in CFP top 25 drawing reaction across social media
Ohio State suffered a heavy loss to Michigan to see their hopes of a B1G Championship come to an end.
The Buckeyes and Wolverines were ranked Nos. 2 and 3 in the previous week’s College Football Playoff Top 25, respectively. With the Buckeyes’ loss, they dropped to No. 5.

That said, there still could be a pathway into the Playoff for OSU depending on what happens to a pair of teams ahead of it. TCU and USC came in at Nos. 3 and 4 in Tuesday night’s CFP rankings. A loss by either team likely opens the door for Ryan Day’s team to get into the CFP. Still, if it doesn’t happen, they’ll be left wishing that it hadn’t given such a poor account of itself in front of a home crowd against its archrival.
Ohio State being slotted at No. 5 drew the attention of many fans across social media following the release of the penultimate CFP rankings:
Watch Ohio State fans who are cocky enough to think their team gets in with a TCU or USC loss feel angry when the committee puts Alabama in instead

Things you love to see.. No Bama or Buckeyes in the Top 4. 🙌🏼 https://t.co/YEHbtAnypx

The #Buckeyes were embarrassed at home. They don’t deserve to be ranked fifth. #CFBPlayoff https://t.co/OckBTQCAK1

It'd probably be a good idea for Ohio State and Michigan to stop playing nice with MAC teams and start playing stronger non-conference opponents, especially with the rest of the Big Ten being as weak as it is.

Ohio State at 5… I'm not mad at it. After that game it's quite generous.

Ranking Ohio State ahead of Alabama was obvious. I am glad the CFP Committee got it right.

I’m feeling like Ohio State has a real shot of getting in. Despite last week’s fourth quarter meltdown (against their rival and #2 team in the country), there aren’t 4 teams who’ve looked better all year (especially if USC or TCU loses) https://t.co/QaqRmxZjSw

If, IF, Ohio State gets in, if Day doesn’t coach like it’s a backyard scrimmage god help me.

There is just no way both USC and TCU win their conference championship games this weekend. Ohio state will once again find its way into the playoff. I pray that I’m wrong
