Ohio State defensive end Tyreke Smith is having surgery on Thursday, he tweeted out this morning.

Smith didn’t give any indication on what the surgery was in relation to, or the nature of any potential injury. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll miss any playing time in the 2019 season because of the procedure.

Smith was a four-star member of Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 4 weak-side defensive end in the cycle and was the No. 34 overall prospect.

As a freshman last season, Smith appeared in 12 of Ohio State’s 14 games and totaled nine tackles. He shined in the team’s spring game in April, recording 3.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the contest.

Ohio State opens the 2019 season against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Aug. 31.
