There’s a new B1G representative on the College Football Playoff selection committee.

On Friday, Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith announce that he was stepping down from his position on the committee, which he has been a part of for the last two seasons. Smith said his decision comes because he wants to help new head coach Ryan Day transition into his new role with the Buckeyes.

“It is imperative for me to have 100% focus in helping our new coach with his transition at The Ohio State University this fall,” Smith said.

Taking over Smith’s role will be Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta. He’s been the AD of the Hawkeyes since August 2006.

“I’m honored to be invited to work on the CFP selection committee,” Barta said. “I look forward to serving alongside the other 12 committee members. I’ve known many of the people involved for years and know they’re passionate about college football and have all demonstrated character and integrity throughout their careers.”

Barta will begin a three-year term on the selection committee this spring.
