It’s not easy to replace a guy who gave as much to Ohio State as Luke Fickell did.

With the longtime Buckeye assistant off to begin his first head coaching gig at Cincinnati, OSU had a spot left on its staff.

That spot was filled by longtime NFL assistant Bill Davis, who has been an analyst with the program throughout the 2016 season. It’s unclear what role Davis’ role will be at this time, but it won’t be decided until after the 2016-17 season.

Davis spent seven years as an NFL defensive coordinator with three different teams. He coached linebackers for eight years for four different teams, as well.

A Youngstown, Ohio native, Davis graduated from Cincinnati and is close personal friends with Urban Meyer. Davis was actually the best man at Meyer’s wedding.

Davis will remain in his current role as an analyst through the Buckeyes’ run in the College Football Playoff.
