Ohio State didn’t get the Saturday madness it needed to sneak into the playoff field and defend its title.

As a result, the Buckeyes found themselves on outside of the top four looking in. They knew that heading into Sunday. The debate was whether or not Iowa did enough to stay ahead of the Buckeyes following a B1G Championship loss on Saturday night.

The committee felt it was.

In the final College Football Playoff poll, the Buckeyes came in at No. 7 in the final College Football Playoff poll while Iowa earned the No. 5 spot.

That meant that Ohio State did not earn the Rose Bowl bid. Instead, the Buckeyes will take on Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day.

The Buckeyes finished the season in an impressive fashion with a blowout win in Ann Arbor, which marked their first win against a top 25 team this season.

Ohio State’s lone loss came at the hands of Michigan State, which earned a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Spartans knocked off unbeaten Iowa in the B1G Championship on Saturday night to clinch a top-four spot.
