Paul Finebaum downplays Ohio State’s win over Penn State: ‘So what?’

Paul Finebaum joined the Matt Barrie Show Monday afternoon to discuss the first CFP rankings, which will be revealed Tuesday night.
Georgia is No. 1 in the AP poll, but Barrie believes it will be Ohio State who comes out on top Tuesday night due to their wins over Notre Dame on the road and Penn State at home a few weeks ago.
Finebaum also agrees that the upper echelon of the B1G – Michigan and Ohio State – will be among the top 4 teams. However, he’s not as excited about the Buckeyes’ resume. He’s not ready to equate the Buckeyes’ win over Penn State as being in the same tier as their win over Notre Dame.
Here’s his full quote:
“Count me as being not really that excited by the fact Ohio State has beaten, what… Penn State and Notre Dame? I mean great, Notre Dame is looking like a pretty good team right now, I give them that. And that game was at Notre Dame. But the Penn State game at home, so what?”

Ohio State’s win over the Nittany Lions was not as impressive as its win over the Fighting Irish, it’s fairly safe to say. The Buckeyes did not look like a strong unit against Penn State and really struggled to take advantage on more opportunities. Road wins are also valued just that much more in the eyes of the committee.
With how Penn State played, Ryan Day’s squad should have dominated that game.
