Paul Finebaum, Matt Barrie evaluate Ryan Day's postgame rant: 'I doubt Lou really cares'
Paul Finebaum and Matt Barrie had a bit of fun reacting to the epic rant produced by Ryan Day Saturday night.
Following the dramatic win over Notre Dame, Day lashed out at Lou Holtz over some late-week comments about a perceived lack of toughness for the Buckeyes. Barrie admitted Day’s passionate delivery was the most fiery he’s seen a head coach on the field directly after a win.
“Ryan Day is front and center for that one after the win over Notre Dame calling out Lou Holtz. It’s as fiery as I’ve ever seen a coach on the field after a win,” said Barrie. “Paul, that’s as intense and fired up as I’ve ever seen a coach postgame.”
Finebaum did admit it was the win was a great moment for Day, but he also acknowledged Holtz is unlikely to care much about the postgame comments.
“I’m sure there are plenty of Lou Holtz jokes going around today, but I happened to be around Lou about a year ago… at 86 or 87, whatever he is, still very sharp and amazing guy so I’m glad Lou has gotten a curtain call,” Finebaum said. “I doubt Lou really cares. He said what he said because that’s who he is.
“I think Ryan Day had a great moment, especially versus the other coach who made a basic elementary coaching mistake at the end of the game and the cost of that is incalculable.”
