Paul Finebaum believes there is one program out of the B1G that is actually well-positioned to become the “next Georgia.” By that, he means there is one program that has the firepower and resources to go on a run of national titles in the future.

Appearing on ESPN’s KJM show, Finebaum revealed Ohio State as the program best suited to become the program to go on a run of titles. He pointed to the talent the Buckeyes bring in and how close Ryan Day’s team was to winning the Peach Bowl semifinal over Georgia.

“I still think Ohio State is the best built of any program out there,” Finebaum explained. “They need to get over the hump, but as I watch college football — I know you can’t just say ‘Hey, forget the Michigan game,’ it was the biggest game of the year for them — but they have everything you need to contend. I think they are not far from the same level of Georgia which I think you saw in that semifinal game.”

Finebaum certainly has a point with how the Buckeyes went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs, but the assessment does contain a few problems. Mainly, Ohio State missed out on the Playoff last year, has not won the B1G since 2020, and has suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Michigan.

We’ll see if Finebaum’s belief proves accurate in 2023 and beyond. For now, it’s still Kirby Smart’s program on top of the college football world.
