Paul Finebaum ventured outside of his SEC comfort zone on Tuesday to break down the Big Ten on ESPN’s Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin.

A longtime critic of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, Finebaum said he was impressed with the Wolverines’ victory over Minnesota in Week 1. However, that didn’t come without a backhanded compliment.

“Michigan looked unusually good,” Finebaum said on the show. “We all like to poke fun at Jim Harbaugh, nobody more than me, but they went into Minnesota the other night and were dominating. That surprised me.”

But even after Michigan’s big win, Finebaum still has more faith in the Ohio State Buckeyes.

“I think it’s all about Ohio State,” he said. “I really don’t think there’s going to be another contender out of there.”

Much of that belief is evidently tied to quarterback Justin Fields, who totaled three touchdowns in the opener.

“He doesn’t look like he’s missed anything,” Finebaum he said. “He’s as good as he was. He’s a legitimate Heisman candidate.”

Fields was a Heisman Trophy finalist a year ago and is on track to making it to the ceremony in New York City once again.

The Buckeyes face Penn State in Happy Valley this weekend, which is arguably the toughest game remaining on their schedule until Michigan in the final week of the regular season.

“And I know Ohio State plays in the biggest game of the weekend at State College this weekend,” Finebaum added. “If they can get past there, they are really looking strong to get back to the playoffs.”

Ohio State and Penn State will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
