Paul Finebaum has been fairly critical of Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer all season long. Most of that stemmed from the situation involving former assistant coach Zach Smith, but it trickled into the 2018 season.
On Tuesday, though, following the announcement that Meyer will retire from his position, the SEC Network host provided some different context on the three-time national champion. There’s no question he’ll be remembered as one of the greats.
“If he never coaches again, his legacy will be as one of the greatest coaches of his era,” Finebaum said on Get Up!.

Meyer won three B1G titles and the 2014 national championship while at Ohio State, compiling an 85-9 record and 54-4 mark in conference play during that stretch. He also won two national titles at Florida.
In 17 seasons as a head coach (Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State), Meyer’s teams never had a losing season. His Buckeye teams won at least 11 games in all seven seasons and he coached in a bowl game 15 times.
Maybe most importantly, he was 7-0 against Michigan.
Meyer will step down after Ohio State’s date with Washington in the Rose Bowl Game. It will be the first time Meyer has ever coached in Pasadena.
