Day bid adieu to the beard in large part because of superstition. As a quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers, the team posted a 2-14 record while Day rocked a beard.
With defending B1G champion Ohio State aiming for a national title this season, Day isn’t taking any chances despite his grooming preferences.
“I’m not gonna coach with the beard,” Day said to The Columbus Dispatch. “I’m just too superstitious. I’d like to (keep it). I’ve thought long and hard about it. My wife and I had a conversation about it. I’m not taking that chance, especially starting with a conference game. The beard has to go.”
